Employer: Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC) A Progressive south metro member-owned utility
Regular Work Hours: Monday Friday, Daytime
Work Location: Jordan, Minnesota Only 25-30 minutes south from the SW Suburbs on Highway 169.
General Summary
MVEC is currently looking for a System Operator who will be responsible for safely operating MVECs electrical system to maximize reliability, efficiency, and system performance. The System Operator is also responsible for safely coordinating the restoration of power when outages occur with minimal disruption to members.
Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Controls and monitors all Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) operated devices on the MVEC system and under MVECs control and properly respond when applicable.
Performs load studies and initiates load control when appropriate.
Responsible for line switching and tagging by checking and issuing clearances, monitoring load, coordinating emergency restoration and properly reporting to the electrical distribution system.
Develops, approves, and tracks substation switching procedures in a safe and reliable manner. Functions as the distribution system operator with the transmission providers for substation and transmission switching procedures.
Identifies and provides business improvement ideas for IT software usability to increase effectiveness. Communicates ideas to IT professionals for implementation.
Intakes customer calls and resolves inquiries related to outages, service, electrical and load management issues.
Determines appropriate action in emergency and non-emergency situations.
Safely and properly locates MVECs underground facilities for internal and external stakeholders.
Maintains appropriate record keeping and required logging of activity for compliance and analysis purposes.
Qualifications:
Knowledge typically acquired through a two year technical/trade school or 4 year college program such as Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Transmission System Operations Technology, Electronics Technology, or equivalent.
Two years of electrical utility system operator experience is preferred.
Information technology knowledge preferred.
Understanding of mathematics as it applies to electrical theory and power system applications, electricity measurements of unit, electrical wiring concepts, electrical terminology and equipment.
Strong customer service skills a must.
Ability to remain calm and respond properly in emergency situations.
Ability to distinguish colors on monitors, displays, and drawings/documents.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
